HP Designjet 800ps Plotter

Engineering Library

A HP DESIGNJET 800ps plotter is available in the Engineering Library, 149 Fitzpatrick Hall, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, for the faculty and students of the College of Engineering.

The plotter was obtained with funds given by the Indiana State Library to increase the library's capacity to serve faculty and students for quality large-scale prints, associated with "scholarly" projects; therefore the Engineering Library does not seek to become a "Print Shop", but rather to serve the needs of the College of Engineering, with special emphasis on Geographical Information Systems projects.

The School of Engineering Graphics Department provides complete design, writing, and editing services for a fee.  FedExKinkos offers poster printing services for a fee and are open 24 hours.

Whether you need to print schematics from AutoCAD, conference posters from Power point, or spreadsheets from Excel, the plotter will provide the quality you need from the applications you use most.

Plotter Guidelines: important! updated March 7, 2008 .

  • Engineering Library does not edit any poster or provide technical assistance.  If you are having difficulty constructing your poster, please contact the OIT Help desk (631-8111), or The School of Engineering Graphics Department for professional assistance.
  • Posters with a file size greater than 10 MB will not be accepted.  Layered posters increases the file size and will not load on library computers.
  • To help keep this service free; we must conserve ink.  Do not use a solid background color. Color accents and borders are acceptable.  The library reserves the right to REFUSE to print a poster with a solid background color.
  • Supplies are not free to the library.  One (1) poster printing per person, per conference/class.  A poster will not be reprinted due to patron design error, or patron mishandling of poster.
  • Maximum plot size is 35 in. x 60 in., with one exception.  Posters created with Microsoft PowerPoint can not be greater than 35 x 55.
  • Our computers use Office 2003, if you are using Office 2005 or higher, make a .PDF poster.  Office 2003 may not recognize some scientific symbols used in Office 2005 and 2007; and will replace them with other symbols.
  • Test the images in your poster.  People are finding that their images are not as clear and crisp as they expected after it has been blown-up on a poster. Bit mapped images scale poorly, but vector based images can be scaled indefinitely without degradation.
  • Engineering Library staff access is required for printing. If you wish to leave a floppy or a flash drive, with staff for printing, please supply the following information: Your name, name of faculty associated with, file name & format, contact information, and print dimensions. If there are problems with your project, you will be notified.
  • Plan ahead.  24 hour notice is appreciated, 48 hours notice is best. Especially if you know several people will be needing posters printed.  Last minute requests will not be possible if staffing is limited.  Printing early in the morning will minimize disruptions to those who are studying.
  • No student-activity related posters for clubs, groups, etc.

Plotter features:

  • High-quality lines and images.
  • Best combination of line quality and image printing. Four-color, high-resolution writing system with pigmented black delivers excellent line quality plus high quality imaging.
  • HP color layering technology. The writing system combines multiple ink drips on a single dot to create smooth color transitions, so you get top quality results for images, renderings, and illustrations.
  • Documents are printed on HP semi-gloss photo paper.
  • Print resolution is 2400 x 1200 dpi.
